One of the greenest islands of the Central Dalmatian archipelago, Šolta is also known as the historical "summer house" for the residents of the city Split. Its trademark is the Eurasian scops owl - a small owl (otus scops) - which symbolizes wisdom and affection, but also abundant flora and fauna. In fact, there are 132 bird species on the island, and one of them is the tawny eagle (aguila rapax) for whom Šolta is the only habitat in Croatia. Read more
